Bean has one of the best reputations when it comes to making returns.  They truly want their customers to be happy so if there is something that does not fit right or you simply don’t like and is  not working or fitting or if the item is not standing up to its task or lasting as long as you think it should, they will take it back. They want to make sure they keep their guarantee the way it’s always been for over a century.

Returns Without A Receipt
Please let them know as much information as you can about your purchase so that they can locate a record of your purchase. If they can’t, they will reimburse you with an L.L.Bean gift card for the current selling price of the item or replace your item. To help ensure fairness to all customers, they do require a receipt in certain situations.

To help protect our customers and make sure every return or exchange is dealt with fairly, we may either require a receipt or decline a return or exchange in certain situations, including:
Items that were not purchased directly from L.L.Bean (such as items purchased at thrift stores, online sellers or garage sales)

  • Items with a missing label or an item that has been defaced
  • On rare occasions, based on the nature of prior transactions
  • Returns without a receipt and a valid ID in our stores
  • Items that have been soiled or contaminated, until they have been cleaned
  • Items lost or damaged due to fire, flood or natural disaster
  • Returns on ammunition either in our stores or through the mail

Please note: Due to the challenges posed by COVID-19, returns by mail can take up to 3-4 weeks to process. We appreciate your patience as we work to process returns as quickly and safely as possible.

If you are not 100% satisfied with one of our products purchased directly from L.L.Bean’s website, stores or catalog, you may return it within one year of purchase for a refund. (Please note that products purchased before February 9, 2018, are not subject to this one-year time limit.) After one year, we will consider any items for return that are defective due to materials or craftsmanship.

We require proof of purchase to honor a refund or exchange. If you provide us your information when you check out, we will typically have a record of your purchase. Otherwise, we require a physical receipt.

Please include your proof of purchase with the products you wish to return or exchange and bring it with you to any of our stores, or include it in your package of returned item(s). We will reimburse the original purchase price to either your original method of payment or as a Return Gift Card. Note: items purchased with PayPal and returned to a store will receive either a Return Gift Card or a cash refund.
